When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life doesn’t just change. It stops.
Parents find themselves living between hospital wards and home, juggling appointments, finances, and fear. Siblings feel the shift. Normal life disappears, replaced by uncertainty and exhaustion.
In those moments, families need more than sympathy. They need consistent, reliable support.
This is where Hugs comes in, and where regular donors quietly make all the difference.
Why regular giving matters so much
A single donation can help in a crisis moment. But childhood cancer isn’t a moment – it’s a long, unpredictable journey.
Regular monthly donations allow us to walk alongside families for the whole journey, not just at the start. Knowing support is there month after month means we can:
- Keep our wellbeing hub open and accessible
- Provide emotional and practical support when it’s needed most
- Offer respite when families are physically and mentally exhausted
- Plan support ahead, instead of reacting in crisis
For families whose lives feel completely out of control, consistency matters.
How £50 a month turns into even more support
When someone becomes a Hugs Hero, donating £50 a month, they’re already making a powerful commitment. But for UK taxpayers, that gift can go even further, at no extra cost.
By adding Gift Aid, every £50 monthly donation becomes £62.50 to the charity. Over a year, that’s £150 extra that goes directly into supporting families.
That extra funding helps us:
- Extend wellbeing support without increasing costs for families
- Keep safe, welcoming spaces open for parents who need a break
- Ensure our respite home and wellness hub are available when burnout hits
- Say “yes” to families who need help, without hesitation
For higher-rate taxpayers, there’s also the option to claim back additional tax relief, making regular giving not just generous, but tax-efficient too.
Stability for families, confidence for the charity
Regular donations, especially when boosted by Gift Aid, give us something incredibly valuable: certainty.
They allow us to plan ahead, retain trusted staff and volunteers, and build long-term services families can rely on. Instead of wondering if we’ll have the funds next month, we can focus on what really matters; supporting children and their families through the hardest time of their lives.
More than a donation
Hugs Heroes aren’t just donors. They’re part of our story.
As a Hugs Hero, supporters receive:
- Logo and weblink featured on our website
- A certificate of thanks and a photo with a member of the Hugs team, shared across our social media channels
- An invitation to our annual AGM (April) to see how donations are helping the charity
- A certificate displayed in our wellbeing hub, visible to the families they support
- An invitation to visit our respite home and wellness hub
It’s our way of showing how deeply we value those who stand with families month after month.
